Places of Inspiration around the World.

Welcome to my Oil Painting Website.

During my travels, both on business and pleasure, I try to capture the landscape, people’s behavior, emotions and conversations I experience during the trip in a mixture of complex shapes and vibrant colours.  Every person who catches my eye is on a journey through our shared landscape, with their own story to tell and although we are all immersed in the same moment in time, we each view the scene through different eyes and life experiences.

All my canvases are generated from sketches I develop of how I perceive the people and shapes around me at that particular moment - they are a diary of experiences projected on large canvases; singular steps in a complex dance we convert to living.

Whereas my oil paintings are a snap-shot of a moment in time, my poems attempt to explore some of the triggers which affect our emotions and help mould the decisions in our life - they are reflections on how I view our society today and are about love and politics and the part they play in making us who we are today.

As I continue to age and mature, not that both happen hand in hand, I view everyday interactions of people in a more in-depth and refined manner - not content to just watch them weave along on their journey I endeavour to delve deeper and imagine where are they going, what are they thinking so all can be reflect this in my future paintings.

Skyscrapers and beaches are the basis of this canvas. A drawing evolved over a 5 hour walk round Chicago. A city rich in style and passion with corners of suburbia built in. The river and stars are reflected in the painting across the lake.

This canvas was originally conceived at York Minster following a coffee in Starbucks and an overheard conversation between 2 students discussing a maths problem. It is basically multicultural religious views verses science and maths.

Bamberg December 2008

My first canvas in 25 years was inspired by the historic town of Bamberg in Upper Franconia and its brightly decorated "Rathaus" which straddles the River Regnitz. The shapes endeavour to capture the slip into Winter as the seasons change.

As I continue to explore depth and distance in my paintings as an expression of substance, this sketch, conceived in Orlando's Millennium Mall in 2013, attempts to narrate the crowds visiting the attractions and their interaction.

Welcome to my Oil Painting Website.

"It never seems like work if it
engages all your senses and heart"

I resurrected my love of oil painting while living in Germany in the early eighties, exhibiting in a local hotel and at a National Art and Health Fair in Erlangen. During my stay in Germany I started a book of Poetry, which was a collection of my thoughts - one poem written during my time in Germany “Proclaimers and Dreamers Reunite” was a Diploma Winner in the 1988 Scottish Open Poetry Competition.

Upon my return to Scotland in 1984 I secured a university place, on the strength of my portfolio, to Grays School of Art. I deciding instead to look at the option of running my own Tour Company and I started my first company, Craigforth Travel, in 1986.

Following 14 years of running school skiing tours and event travel packages to the Special Olympics World Summer and Winter Games from 1991 - 1999. In December 2000,aged 40, I decided to start a second company 2e-volve (UK) Limited, which provides bespoke ICT and Software Engineering solutions. 2e-volve (UK) employs 12 staff, operating from the company's base in Stirling.

While growing both companies my oil painting was put on hold. It was not until 2008 that I was able to sit down and determine the direction I wanted to take my painting in and since this date I have produced over 12 large canvases in a unique style of vibrant colours, shapes and perspectives.
